Dine for A Cause - Dinner & Silent Auction
Nov. 2nd, 2017: 6pm cocktails, 7pm dinner - November is Lung Month. The Lung Association and Pulmonary Hypertension Association of Canada will co-present a charity dinner & auction at Biagio’s in support of the 1 in 5 people affected by a lung disease, including rare conditions such as Pulmonary Hypertension. One silent auction, two great causes, three-course dinner. Tickets are $50 a person, with a portion of the proceeds going back to each charity. 100% of the silent auction items sold also support the causes. May 27/28, 2017: The Lung Association is inviting you - no matter where you live - to support people with lung disease. Because when you can't breathe, nothing else matters. Join our Team Breathe at the Ottawa Race Weekend, by raising funds and walking or running the 2km, 5km, 10km, 21km or 42km distances. June 2017: Tackle obstacles in support of people affected by breathing issues. This event at the Edelweiss Ski Hill offers you the chance to crawl in the mud, climb huge hills, jump over fire and more – all this fun AND you get a medal at the end too! July 15, 2017: Stomp the Pedals, Feel the Power, Think Big, Ride GranFondo Ottawa. The Lung Association has been the charity of choice for the GranFondo Ottawa since it’s 2nd year. This one-day cycling event offers distances including 65k, 100k, 150k, 180k, and 235k. Riders are invited to raise funds on behalf of The Lung Association leading up to the ride on July 15th. Also, funds donated through the purchase of The Exchange items support our work as well. We welcome your help with the volunteer crew for event day, if you prefer. Resources & Support Groups
The Lung Association’s Respiratory Health Centre in Ottawa provides programs and services for people with lung conditions. The Pulmonary Exercise Maintenance Program operates six classes a week with patients choosing from one to four class sessions each week.
Classes are led by Rosario Holmes, a Respiratory Therapist / Certified Respiratory Educator, and include: lung health education; instructor-led group exercise with hand-weights; supervised use cardio equipment including treadmills, stationary bikes, and leg machines. Each class finishes with social time including light refreshments.
Medical referrals to the exercise maintenance program are required. The Centre also provides respiratory Education Sessions during the weekdays for people of all ages, and with all types of lung conditions. By appointment only. No referral required.
