A program that partners The Lung Association with local
lawyers to help community members prepare for their future.   

 An Overview

The Lung Association, in partnership with local lawyers and law firms, runs The Will
Campaign throughout the year at the lawyer’s availability. During this time, The Lung
 Association will promote that participating lawyers will offer a special rate for their
 services. All proceeds from The Will Campaign benefit The Lung Association’s medical
research and community health programs.

The Details

Participating lawyers provide the following services:

• a Simple Will for $100
• a Simple Power of Attorney for $50

These reduced fees are based on one hour of service. Additional time taken for more
complex services will be charged to the client at the lawyer’s regular rate.

Clients are asked to contact the lawyer’s office to arrange for an appointment. Clients
must present payment in the total amount for the service upon initial consultation.
 Payment is to be made by cheque payable to The Lung Association. The lawyer will
then forward payment to The Lung Association Community Office they have registered
with.

The client will not receive an income tax receipt for as they are receiving a service from the lawyer.

The Lung Association offers lawyers the following for their support of this campaign:

Option A

The Lung Association will prepare a letter of acknowledgement detailing the lawyer’s
 participation in The Will Campaign and the value of their contribution. This would be
calculated by the number of clients and the number of services provided and billed at
 the lawyer’s regular rate.

OR

Option B

Lawyers can receive an income tax receipt by invoicing The Lung Association for the
 number of clients and the number of services provided, and billed at the lawyer’s
regular rate. The Lung Association will pay this invoice, and in turn, the lawyer will
prepare a cheque for the same amount payable to The Lung Association as a donation.
The Lung Association can then issue the lawyer a charitable income tax receipt in
accordance with the CRA regulations. If you have questions regarding either of these

The Benefits

Lawyers participating in The Lung Association’s Will Campaign will receive a charitable
income tax receipt or letter acknowledging their contribution.

The Will Campaign will be promoted by The Lung Association within local communities.

Participation in The Will Campaign will increase community awareness for the law
firms involved.

The Lung Association’s Will Campaign clients may extend their services, which could
 mean ongoing business for the lawyers involved.

The Will Campaign brings a service to the community by highlighting the importance
of having a Will and ensuring that personal affairs are in order.

The Will Campaign will create a positive image within the community for the firms
involved in the campaign through support of a great cause - The Lung Association.
