Tulip Day

Tulips are the perfect harbinger of spring!

The Lung Association's Tulip Day campaign is an annual fundraising campaign. The tulip is
our signature flower because of low fragrance and non-allergic nature, which allows it to be
enjoyed by everyone, especially people with breathing difficulties.

By purchasing our tulips on Tulip Day each March you are helping save lives, one breath at
 a time.

The 2010 Annual Tulip Day Campaign will be held in the following communities: Sault Ste
Marie, Belleville, Toronto/York (incl. Pickering), London, Hamilton, Waterloo, Brantford,
Niagara region, Haldimand region, Windsor, Chatham, Ottawa, Kingston, Peel/Halton
regions, and Huron-Perth region.

One of the ways you can help is by signing up to be your Company's Workplace Tulip

Proceeds from Tulip Day will help The Lung Association make a difference by providing
resources, support and vital funds for research in lung disease. Help us bring a breath of
hope to people suffering from asthma, COPD (chronic bronchitis) and other lung diseases.
In Canada, someone dies from lung disease every 15 minutes - please help us change that. .

Mark Cullen’s Top Tips for Tulip Care
Here are just a few suggestions at getting the most bloom for your buck when purchasing
 or receiving cut tulips:

1.Remove any foliage (leaves) from the part of the stem that will be under water in the vase.
2.Cut off white portion of the stem, this helps for better water intake.
3.Change water frequently.  The key to a long lasting cut tulip is clean fresh water and lots of it.
4.Re-cut stems ever 4 to 5 days by removing only 1”. This will help to encourage water intake.
5.The cooler the room the longer your blooms will last.
6.Check water in the vase frequently.

Remember, tulips will always grow towards the light, potted or cut.
Potted Tulips:

1.In your home, place tulips in bright indirect light.
Keep your potted tulip away from any heat sources
such as heating vents or electronics.
2.Place on a saucer - you don’t want the water
 seeping onto your furniture.
3.Keep moist but not too wet. Every other day
watering is fine.
4.Fertilizing is not needed.
5.If you want to slow down the flowering period,
place in a cool room. If you need your tulip to last for
a specific occasion reducing the heat and light will
allow you to time it perfectly.
6.Potted tulips are recyclable. Just hold onto the
finished tulips until planting time in spring, remove
the whole bunch - soil and all - from the pot and
plant in the ground at the same level as the soil in
the pot.
