While only a few participants have been selected for the Asthma Marathon Challenge, everyone is encouraged to join the virtual team!
A self-managed marathon training program, designed by triathlon coach Barrie Shepley is now available. This is a great way for those not selected to join the Asthma Marathon Challenge and demonstrate that asthma need not restrict physical activity.
Three different training programs have been developed for the Asthma Marathon Challenge by former Olympic coach Barrie Shepley. Barrie has successfully coached and supported thousands of people through their first training goals, including marathons and triathlons. It is important that individuals honestly assess their current fitness status and select the training program appropriate for them. It is very important to consult your physician before starting any new exercise regimen.
Please click on the marathon run program that corresponds with your fitness level:
Novice - (pdf) Assumes you are a non-runner, or have not run for a very long time and your current fitness level is low.
Intermediate - (pdf) Assumes you have been running modestly over the past four to eight weeks and that you can run fairly easily for 35 to 45 minutes without stopping.
Advanced - (pdf) Assumes you have likely run a half marathon or marathon in the past and that you are able to run 50 to 60 minutes without stopping.
